Mandela and the Children, an
event in September 1998 that brought 40,000 children
to Toronto’s Skydome, was the impetus behind the
creation of NMCF Canada.

Former South African
Ambassador to the Hague, Carl Niehaus, championed
NMCF Netherlands. It was officially launched in May
1999 under the patronage of Prime Minister Wim Kok,
and prominent businessman Bas Kardol as Chairman.

Children’s Fund – UK
The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund (UK) was
established in June 1996 as a result of increasing
support for NMCF outside South Africa. Since then,
NMCF (UK) has raised over R30m for the work of NMCF
in South Africa. It's offices are kindly sponsored
by Maitland & Co, who also assist with legal advice.
The UK Fund is honoured to have H.E. Ms Lindiwe
Mabuza, the current South African High Commissioner
to London as chairperson.

Children’s Fund – USA
The World Premiere of Anant Singh’s “Cry the Beloved
Country” in New York inspired the establishment of
NMCF USA Incorporated. Chaired by Ambassador Sheila
Sisulu, NMCF USA succeeded in qualifying for the
Combined Federal Campaign – Number 2755.
