Our Work The overall goal for the strategic period 2005-2010 directs us to improving the conditions of children and youth from impoverished backgrounds. This strategic goal will be achieved or substantially impacted via a concerted focus in four programme areas - each having a specific programme goal as indicated: - Well-being of Children : To promote a rights-based, nurturing, caring, safe and supportive environment for children and youth - Children and Youth with Disabilities : To improve the quality of life of disabled children and youth by facilitating their integration into mainstream society - Skills Development : To improve opportunities for skills development in entrepreneurship for children and youth, enabling their participation in the formal economy - Leadership and Excellence : To promote leadership potential and excellence of children and youth The response to mitigate the impact against HIV/AIDS is catered for under the well-being programme through the Goelama model whose key results areas include: i. Strengthening families ii. Strengthening communities iii. Strengthening local government response Knowledge Management To support its programmes and Strategic Initiatives, the NMCF has the benefit of a Knowledge Management approach responsible for: i. Research and Reports; ii. Documentation; and iii. Promotion of successful models care to children’s well being & youth development by means of Advocacy Strategy (AS) for Government to scale up countrywide. iv. The AS supported by a Knowledhe Management approach extends into the South African Development Community (SADC) with a view to enlist an SADC response and action to the plight to the plight of orphans and vulnerable children The Children's Hospital The plans to establish a Children’s Hospital represent the highest point that the Mandela legacy will lend to the establishment of top class specialist health care facility for children in the SADC region.
