The Advancement for the Status of Women (ASW) is a concept formulated to advance the status of women. The central features of the ASW agenda include: •· Placing of women at the center of present day societal concerns; •· Impress sustainable developmental action; •· Highlight the need for democratic participation; •· Direct the focus of empowerment initiatives on redress outcomes; and •· Ensure that desired outcomes demonstrate direct impact to children well being The ASW agenda points to: •· Mind-set change by sectors of society •· Responsive public policy regime •· A shared sense of development insight by economic planners, captains of industry and development agencies and Foundations In order to shape and advance the status of women in society, it is important to: •· To change the way society treats its children and youth; •· Recognition of women as integral force to societal well being, •· Assert their role in shaping history, learn from history to prevent repetition of past mistakes, and seize the opportunity to be active partners to plotting a future that the generations after them would be proud to inherit To this end, the ASW commits to: •· Bring about a new way of thinking and to institute a process of what is termed "Re-Languaging" Enter public discourse through construction of an ideology that shape identities that promote equality between all people regardless of gender or class The ASW has structured itself into sub-committees with each focusing to cover various aspects covered: Namely: •· National Women's Day •· National Children's Day •· Research and Publicity Committee •· Key Values •· Women Opportunities (women who will focus on how other women can access resources that are available to them) •· Institutional Arrangements
