NMCF Staff Donates School Shoes

One of the values closest to the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund (NMCF) staff is that of bettering the lives of those less privileged than them especially the children. The drive for this is because the NMCF staff has been exposed to the hardships the children have had to deal with in their young lives. Some of the children have had to sacrifice their childhood in order to survive. This as they are suddenly expected to take on an adult's role and care for their younger siblings as they've lost their parents at a tender age. There are children who have to walk long distances just to get to the nearest school. More often than not these children don't have the bare necessities like school uniform as their families simply can't afford them.

This is the reason why the NMCF staff and their friends have once again decided to contribute to the cause closest to their hearts. They decided to get together and join the Railway to Life School Shoe campaign led by Mr. Lupi Ngcayisa of Metro FM. This campaign is aimed at positively affecting the lives of children who are less privileged by blessing them with a brand new pair of school shoes and socks. For most of the children this is a time for jubilation as they've never owned anything new. The NMCF staff and their friends managed to collect 20 pairs of brand new school shoes and socks.

We know that we can do more as a society as it only takes less than R200 to get a brand new pair of school shoes with 3 pairs of socks per year. This contribution goes a long in the children's lives. This as they are able to gain their dignity back because they have something they can identify as their own. The child is able to concentrate and excel at school because of the warmth provided by what we regard as bare necessities. Let's be the change we hope to see in the world, by making a positive contribution and doing more for our children to see them realize their dreams.

A sincere heartfelt thank you goes out to each and everyone who took part in this initiative. It is exciting to know that the NMCF staff and their friends are adhering to the Fund's vision of "CHANGING THE WAY SOCIETY TREATS ITS CHILDREN!"
