The Formative Years
1995 – 2000 The Fund took off as a grant-making in 1995 – 2000
The first-five years (1995 -2000) of strategy implementation were referred to as Sakha Ikusasa I. In those formative years, the Fund was admittedly needs-driven and reactive in its approach. The country was just year into its newfound democracy. Our Founder, Nelson Mandela, also head of the newly established democratic state, was seized with a mission: to engender the spirit a responsive government to be equally felt by a charity he had established with respect to the championing of child wellbeing. The causes were many, the resources limited but the Fund got by to do all possible within available resources. (Key results)
