NELSON MANDELA CHILDREN’S FUND MOURNS THE TRAGIC LOSS OF AT LEAST 13 SCHOOL CHILDREN IN THE VANDERBIJLPARK SCHOLAR TRANSPORT CRASH
The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund joins the nation in mourning the tragic death of at least 13 children who lost their lives in the devastating crash in Vanderbijlpark. This heartbreaking incident has shaken communities across the country and has left families, classmates, educators, and loved ones grappling with unimaginable loss.
On behalf of the Fund, we extend our deepest condolences to the families of the children who have passed away, as well as to those who were injured and continue to receive care. Our thoughts are also with the schools, teachers, and communities affected by this tragedy.
Dr Linda Ncube-Nkomo, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, expressed her sorrow and solidarity with the families: “The loss of young lives in such tragic circumstances is profoundly painful. Our hearts are with the families who are mourning their children, and with the communities who are carrying this collective grief. As a nation, we must wrap these families in care, compassion, and support during this incredibly difficult time.”
The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund recognises that children’s safety is a shared societal responsibility. While investigations into the incident continue, we urge every member of our society to prioritise the protection and well-being of children in every space, on the roads, in schools, and within our communities.
We call on South Africans to honour the memory of the children who lost their lives by standing together in empathy and by strengthening efforts to safeguard the lives and futures of all children.
May the families find comfort in the love and support that surrounds them and may the souls of the departed children rest in peace.
