Every child deserves to grow up safe, loved and free from fear. Today, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund joined FirstRand and fellow implementing partners at the Move It for GBVF activation, standing together against gender-based violence and femicide.
As an implementing partner of FirstRand, we welcomed the opportunity to share our work and highlight why children’s safety must be part of every conversation about ending GBVF.
When violence enters a home or community, children are affected too. Preventing it means listening to children, strengthening families and challenging harmful attitudes.
Thank you to everyone who visited our stand. Let’s carry today’s commitment forward through everyday actions that protect children and build safer communities.
Meaningful connections open doors to greater impact for children. Today, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund met with South Africa’s Ambassador to the Netherlands (South African Embassy, The Hague, Netherlands), H.E. Mr Vusimuzi (Vusi) Madonsela, and his bilateral team in The Hague for a courtesy visit and exploratory engagement.
The meeting offered an opportunity to introduce the Fund’s work and explore potential areas of collaboration in support of children’s rights and well-being.
Reimagine. Reclaim. Rebuild. 🌍 At the International Fundraising Congress (IFC) 2026, leaders and fundraisers came together to rethink philanthropy and the future of sustainable funding.
The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund was represented by CEO Dr Linda Ncube-Nkomo and our Resource Mobilisation Manager, Neo Dube. A key moment was Dr Ncube-Nkomo’s participation in a discussion on a critical question: Can civil society fund itself?
As traditional funding models face increasing pressure, civil society needs to look beyond donor dependency. This means building sustainable financing models, exploring investment opportunities and strengthening collaboration rather than competing for limited resources.
For NMCF, collaboration also means understanding who is already working in communities, identifying opportunities to work together and avoiding duplication. By combining resources and expertise, organisations can direct more effort towards lasting change for children and communities.
For more than 30 years, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund has worked to change the way society treats its children. Our 2025/2026 Annual Report reflects this commitment through the work taking place with communities, families and partners to address poverty, end violence against children and advance children’s rights.
The report highlights the people, partnerships and progress behind this work, and the role your support plays in carrying Madiba’s legacy forward.

Today, we celebrate Mam Graça Machel and her lifelong commitment to children's rights, women's empowerment and a more just society. Her work reflects the importance of listening to children, protecting their rights and ensuring they have the opportunity to shape their own futures. These values align closely with the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund's commitment to changing the way society treats its children.
Why not saying Grace Mandela bcoz she was also the South African Fist lady. She was not there to be Mandela's wife. She was only there to shield that man. Bcoz he couldn't speak any south Africans languages. Then mama Winnie was going to talk about it. That is why she was removed from the 18 area. Rest in Peace cde Samora Machel.
Happy birthday Ma Machel, we appreciate your commitment towards children well-being and women leadership.

This International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the theme “Safe Homes for All” highlights how housing insecurity affects children’s safety, wellbeing and opportunities.
Alleviation of poverty is a key focus area for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. This means addressing the barriers families face, advocating for policies shaped with people experiencing poverty, and ensuring their voices are heard in decisions that affect their lives. Every child deserves a safe place to call home.
