Advocate Kgomotso Moroka holds a BProc from the University of the North, and an LL.B from the University of the Witwatersrand. She was admitted to the Johannesburg Society of Advocates in 1989. 

 

She took silk in 2005. She is passionate about transformation, gender equality and social justice, which is evident in the work that she has been involved in over her 43 years in practice. Some of her more prominent roles have included chairing the Legal Forum where she worked tirelessly to help change the institutional structure of the over 100-year-old legal profession. In her work with the Judicial Services Commission, she contributed to transform the bench and make it more diverse and inclusive. 

 

Adv. Moroka has served in various leadership positions in the legal profession; as a member of the Black Lawyers Association; The Johannesburg Society of Advocates; the General Council of the Bar and Advocates for Transformation.

Adv. Moroka is a seasoned non-executive director who has served on several publicly listed company boards. She was appointed as a committee chair and/or member of the nominations, remuneration, and social and ethics subcommittees of the various boards on which she served.

 

On the nomination/director’s committees of the various company boards, Moroka participated in driving and overseeing the implementation of corporate governance including the establishment of appropriate governance structures, board structuring, succession planning, and diversity matters. Driving governance around pay for performance, board evaluations, social issues such corporate social investment, broad-based black empowerment (BBBEE) initiatives and reputational risk management. She contributed to overseeing the adoption of mandates for board sub-committees, developing governance policies, non-executive director policies, and evaluating board and sub- committees’ effectiveness.
